“Young Money” For Real: Drake Management Sued; Drizzy Claims He Isn’t Getting Paid Either

Before Lil Wayne made headlines signing Drake to Young Money, it was talent scout James “Jas” Prince Jr. who first saw the potential in the Toronto MC. And now the young Houston executive wants what he claims is his just due. The New York Daily News reported that Jas Prince, son of Rap-a-Lot CEO J. Prince, has filed a lawsuit in Manhattan Supreme Court against Drake’s management team for breach of contract and breach of fiduciary duty. In total, there are 10 claims against Drizzy’s manager Cortez Bryant, Gerald “Gee” Roberson, Derrick Lawrence and the firm Aspire Music Group LLC.

It’s well-known that it was Prince who first introduced Drake to the team over at Young Money after hearing his music on MySpace. “One day while leavin the [mall], I just threw [Drake's] CD in and let it play,” Prince told music-industry veteran Al Lindstrom in an April interview.

Catfight: Drake and Chris Brown Entourages Get in Brawl Over Rihanna

Hip-hop rivals Chris Brown and Drake turned a New York City nightclub into a war zone that sent four innocent bystanders to the hospital early Thursday when they started a brutal brawl over the pop music diva Rihanna. One of the club-goers caught in the middle was Hollie C, an Australian tourist who was rushed to Bellevue Hospital after she was smashed in the head with a flying bottle during the fight. She needed 16 stitches to close the wound.

Witnesses say the two recording stars started fighting after Chris Brown sent Drake a bottle of Champagne as a peace offering. Drake reportedly sent the bottle back with a note: ‘I’m f****** the love of your life, deal with it.’

Chris Brown, 23, dated Rihanna until she dumped him after he savagely beat her on the eve of her performance at the Grammy Awards in 2009. After their breakup, the beauty from Barbados was romantically linked with rapper Drake. Reports indicate Rihanna, 24, is in the process of getting back together with Chris Brown. The New York Police Department is investigating the fight, which broke out at Club W.i.P in the SoHo neighborhood of Manhattan.

A spokesman said investigators believe Chris Brown, his bodyguard and a woman with him were trying to leave the club about 4am when they were confronted by five members of Drake’s posse.

Serena of Troy: Is Tennis Star Behind Drake/Common Spat?

Despite being the presumed subject of an ongoing rap beef between Drake and Common, Serena Williams insists her love life isn’t very exciting. The American tennis star is in Melbourne for next week’s Australian Open and answered questions about her relationship status at a Thursday press conference.

“I haven’t been on a date in forever,” Williams she said.

“I can be super picky, never satisfied. It’s a little crazy right now because there’s so much going on that when I’m not playing tennis I don’t sleep because I’m always doing something.” Serena dated the rapper Common on and off for three years. The two broke up sometime last year, reportedly leaving the Chicago-born artist “heartsick.” Since then, Serena has been hanging around with the Canadian TV star-turned-rapper Drake. The two were photographed playing tennis together while Serena was out with an injury last year, though both insist the relationship is platonic. (more…)

Thank Me Later – Drake

Thank Me Later - Drake

Should We Really Be Thanking This Guy?

In all fairness to Drake, it’s near impossible to live up to all the hype and hope surrounding his debut LP, Thank Me Later. It’s a bit of an arrogant album title in a Kanye West-ish kind of way, as if the music game was in such need of his contribution that he must be thanked, but in light of all the terrible music and attempts at music regularly churned out by the industry perhaps a Canadian born rapper has a right to be confident. It’s also a bit fitting because Drake’s debut LP reminds me of something Kanye West might put out if he were less talented and under the influence of Lil’ Wayne. I am just thankful that Wayne’s influence didn’t lead to Drake making a bunch of a ridiculous claims that he is a member of the Bloods as Wayne does on “Miss Me” and his recent feature on Eminem’s latest album.

Thank Me Later is a hybrid rap and R&B album, as Drake seemingly spends equal time rapping and doing some Auto-tune influenced crooning if it can be called crooning. It’s also fitting because Drake is only made possible by the the efforts of people like Andre 3000 to create a niche that was blown wide open by artist like Kanye West. (more…)
