The United States, France and Britain began air strikes and missile attacks on Libyan targets Saturday, initiating a war of aggression that threatens to destabilize North Africa and the entire Middle East. The first two days of bombing have already claimed many lives among the Libyan population that the imperialist powers falsely claim to be protecting.
The war is the first step in a campaign by Washington and its partners in crime to strike back against the popular movements that have overthrown US stooge regimes in Tunisia and Egypt and are threatening US-backed monarchies and dictatorships in Bahrain, Oman, Yemen and Saudi Arabia. (more …)
“A disturbing video has emerged showing French police evicting African immigrants with babies and children during a housing protest in a Paris suburb. Police arrived in the north-east Parisian suburb of La Courneuve last Wednesday and asked a group of about 60 mostly women and children to move, said Michael Hajdenberg, a journalist with the French media organization Mediapart. The group had been living in the street since being evicted from their council homes on July 8 to make way for a new housing project, he said. When the group failed to respond to the request, Hajdenberg said police officers forcibly removed them. “NSFW OR NSFH this is apalling.
The footage shows a screaming woman with a baby wrapped to her back being dragged along the pavement. Another scene shows a pregnant woman lying on her back on the street.According to France 24 the footage was recorded on July 21 by an observer from the Droit au Logement (Right to Housing) association and uploaded on the internet by French news site Mediapart and broadcast by CNN on Tuesday. Most of the immigrants are from the Ivory Coast. Some of them had been living in France for ten years and were not illegal immigrants. click link and Watch at your own risk (more…)
McDonald’s has released an ad in France welcoming gay people to their restaurants. The spot is titled “Come as you are,” and shows a young gay man eating in a McDonald’s with his father, who doesn’t know his son is gay. This ad is only for Europe don’t expect to see it here in USA. Does McDonalds in France have a anti gay history? Still unclear why they felt the need to air such an ad at all or is McDonald’s entering the realm of political debate when they had usually stayed away from? if so why not air it in USA?
Inglourious Basterds REVIEW BY Ooh Papi
I will admit that in my opinion Quentin Tarrantino is an average filmmaker who gets great press from the mainstream media although two of his films are in my top ten all time. When he succeeds he does it with high marks. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a revenge fantasy so willfully messed up, sometimes offensively so, but still manages to be worthwhile. Clocking in at 2 hours and 32 minutes, it is unforgivably leisurely, almost glacial, a film that loses its way in the thickets of alternative history and manages to be violent without the start-to-finish energy that violence on screen usually guarantees and his resume demands.
In his defense, Tarantino announces right off the bat that “Inglourious Basterds” is little more than a fairy tale, in a title that reads, “Once upon a time in . . . Nazi-Occupied France.” Still, even with the most elaborately embroidered myth, it helps to believe at least one word of it. (more…)
