Freudian Slip?: US Marines Posed With Nazi SS Symbol in Afghanistan

Poster’s Note: This is shameful on so many levels. It is unbelievable to think they didn’t know but just as disturbing that they could be so ignorant of world history that they wouldn’t know.

US Marines use Nazi Logo in AfghanistanSAN DIEGO (AP) — The Marine Corps on Thursday once again did damage control after a photograph surfaced of a sniper team in Afghanistan posing in front of a flag with a logo resembling that of the notorious Nazi SS — a special unit that murdered millions of Jews, gypsies and others.

The Corps said in a statement that using the symbol was not acceptable, but the Marines in the photograph taken in September 2010 will not be disciplined because investigators determined it was a naïve mistake. (more…)

Inglourious Basterds REVIEW BY Ooh Papi
I will admit that in my opinion Quentin Tarrantino is an average filmmaker who gets great press from the mainstream media although two of his films are in my top ten all time. When he succeeds he does it with high marks. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a revenge fantasy so willfully messed up, sometimes offensively so, but still manages to be worthwhile. Clocking in at 2 hours and 32 minutes, it is unforgivably leisurely, almost glacial, a film that loses its way in the thickets of alternative history and manages to be violent without the start-to-finish energy that violence on screen usually guarantees and his resume demands.
In his defense, Tarantino announces right off the bat that “Inglourious Basterds” is little more than a fairy tale, in a title that reads, “Once upon a time in . . . Nazi-Occupied France.” Still, even with the most elaborately embroidered myth, it helps to believe at least one word of it. (more…)
