Superior Donuts by Bruce Banter
This is probably broadways best kept secret. A dramatic comedy that is actually funny.
When I heard it being positively discussed on WHCR 90.3 fm recently. I decided that it was worth the price of admission. Needless to say I wasn’t disappointed and the audience really meant it when they gave the cast a standing ovation at the end.
Superior Donuts takes place in Chicago and deals with the plight of an African American college kid who loves betting on sports and the liberal polish donut shop owner he works for. Interspersed is a racist Russian immigrant with big dreams and a knack for making the audience smirk and laugh. A male and female cop who are regulars at the donut shop and a local elderly female who has a love for alcohol. (more…)
