Playahatin On: Ray-J

by Bruce Banter

Ray J sounds totally awful!! Ray J should stick to acting, no disrespect but Ray J's voice is horrible. Ray J sounds absolutely terrible. This guy has worse vocals than 'Milli Vanilli' has ever thought possible. I once thought that the people who told me how bad he sounded were simply player haters, but this is for real. Ray J sounds ok on radio but he gets in trouble because he usually performs live wherever he appears. I can now respect the skills of the engineers in the studio. His "live performance" is a perfect example of what is wrong with the music industry. Ray J must be stopped NOW, all jokes aside. If Ray J is allowed to continue to go on tour with other artist and sing, "live" while there are children in the audience, just think of the message that would send. If he is allowed to continue to appear as a guest singer on shows like 'Ricky Lake' or 'Jenny Jones' he will more than likely not lip sync and therefore the talent less people who have connections in the industry will be encouraged to make records also.

Ray J aka Willie Norwood does get some props for being able to get rid of his Mississippi accent (Yeah he is exaggerating and embellishing a little when he claims Cali in his song). However enunciation and singing ability are 2 different things. He's proof that the studio can make Fred Sanford sound like Marvin Gaye. I guess that having a sister that is a mover and shaker in the industry can do that. “Wait a minute ain't that Brandy's brother” (sounding awful)! It's obvious that singing talent is not genetic or hereditary. I guarantee that if you are not tone deaf and you hear this guy you will want to fight him.

His song "This aint a game" is disrespect to many struggling artist who have some semblance of talent. People who have paid to hear Ray J perform should be outraged. He should be forced to lip sync until he gets some voice lessons. If he does not lip sync you will easily become aware of his scratchy, crackly and whining vocals. He acts like he cannot hear himself! This is irresponsible of him and his record label!

Please help out by letting me know, if he will be performing in your area anytime soon. Here's a link to his schedule His schedule has been empty for a long time but hey you never know stranger things have happened.
